I remember my mom talking about her experiences in school. She struggled with reading and she thought she wasn’t good at math because her teachers only accepted one way of doing the math–their way. It turns out that she was quite good at math (You should see the kinds of things she can do with numbers in her head). Not only that, but she is a very gifted writer. When she remembers and talks about all those negative school experiences, my mom also thinks about the few positives–all relating to essays and poems she had written. She didn’t write much or often during my growing up years, but every once and a while, when something monumentous happened like my graduating or recieving an award, she would write something for me and it was always profound and extremely well written.
Recently, with the help of Matt and I, my mom has started a blog and begun writing with more regularity. Anything to do with technology seems to make her a little anxious, but she is working very hard on improving her computer skills. It takes time and she is very busy. Her posts are thoughtful and touching. I am so proud of my momma!
If you want to see some of the things she has written, go to her blog, A Rose Grows In Portland. (My favorite so far is the one about the kitchen table).
No matter how long we are married, we hope to always remain newlyweds. We started this blog to keep a record of the funny and exciting things that happen in our lives. We hope that you enjoy it and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
I love your mom’s blog!!!
